Still Waiting . . .

Still Waiting.png

What are you waiting for? Is that a weighty question for you?

When you think about it, you may be waiting for many things that have still not come.

You may be waiting for those visas to come through.

You may be waiting for that phone call for the job.

You may be waiting to meet your husband or wife to be.

I’ve had my share of waiting for many things and I still wait for other things.

In the days leading up to my wedding day, I found that time was moving agonizingly slowly. When it came time to kiss the bride, I lifted my hands as if to say the wait was worth it—and she continues to be worth the wait!

At least then I knew the date was approaching, but now, as we are waiting . . . and waiting . . . for Christ’s return, we sometimes lift up our hands, saying “How long, O Lord?” The day of his answer is known only to him.

Isaiah was a willing, commissioned prophet, but he asked the Lord how long he would have to preach to a hardened people (Isaiah 6:8-13).

In your present situation, are you asking “How long, O Lord”?

The Lord may not answer that specific question, but he has revealed to us his way in our waiting.

The Lord wants you to ask for it . . . again

The Lord desires for us to ask for what is on our hearts. Maybe you haven’t asked enough. Matthew 7:7-8 tells us to ask, seek, and knock continually.

Or maybe you have asked with wrong motives (James 4:3).

You can be confident that if you are delighting in the LORD, committing your way to him, and trusting in him, he promises to act and give you the desires of your heart (Psalm 37:5).

The Lord has something better for you

You may think that what you are waiting for is the best you can think of or ask for, but our sovereign and wise God may have something better for you.

Do you believe he is able to “do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think” (Ephesians 2:20)?

We are invited to ask and then wait for it. He may have something in store beyond our imagination.

Can you wait for his best?

The Lord is cultivating patience in you

You are waiting . . . but are you waiting patiently? Patience is one fruit of the Spirit that he wants to cultivate in you.

We all were once kids strapped in our seatbelts asking impatiently “Are we there yet?” The Lord may not tell us if we are “there yet” but we can wait upon the Lord, the one who is driving us there.

“If we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience” (Romans 8:25).

Can you see that the Lord is doing something in you and for you as you wait upon him?

Are you still waiting?

Along the way: Don’t stop praying. Don’t stop believing. Don’t stop laboring.

He is the Lord working out his sovereign plan according to his purpose and for his glory.

In your waiting… be still and know that he is the Lord.
