Are You Called to Missions?

Are you called to missions?

⬜Yes

⬜Not sure

⬜No

First, we need to define the words mission and missions in order to properly answer this question.

Mission

Mission is God’s sending work into his world through his church for his glory.

Mission is based upon the sending activity of the Triune God. The mission of God the Father was realized in the sending of his Son (1 John 4:9) and the Son sending his church (Matthew 28:18-20) in the power of the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8).

It is his mission because it is rooted in his character—God is a missionary God. We are sent because it is God’s nature to send.

Missions

Missions is all the sending activities of the church in the context of God’s mission.

We engage in missions, the sending activities of the church, because God has sent his church on a mission to the world.

The resurrected Lord said to his disciples, “As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.” Having been sent into the world to preach the gospel (Mark 16:15), they were then commissioned to disciple the nations (Matthew 28:18-20).

All of the activities of Christ’s disciples have a sent-ness to them, whether we are sent to our next door neighbors or to distant neighbors on the other side of the globe.

“We must be global Christians with a global vision because our God is a global God.”
—John Stott

The Call to Missions

The call to missions is the call to discipleship. It is the call to be a disciple of Christ and to make disciples for Christ.

The call has gone out: “Disciple nations.” The question is not whether or not we have been called. We have been called and we have been sent. Instead, the question is, “Where, Lord?”

You can start where you are with the people in your relational network. Who are those F.R.A.N.S. (Friends, Relatives, Acquaintances, Neighbors or Strangers) in your life? Are you praying for their salvation? Are you witnessing to them about your LORD and Savior, Jesus Christ?

Have you answered the call of the LORD? Are you a willing witness to the glory of his grace in salvation?

The prophet Isaiah heard the call of the LORD who said: “Who should I send? Who will go for us?” Isaiah responded: “Here I am. Send me.” (Isaiah 6:8)

Have you heard the LORD’s call on your life?

And returning to the opening question:

Are you called to missions? YES!

“Here I am. Send me!”

“Every Christian is either a missionary or an imposter.”
